Our Organizations efforts to open a child development Center began in 1996 in Canjilón, NM. Our Tierra Amarilla Center has served our community since August 2001.
Our Mission
l Centro addresses early childhood education and family health for our area. The program strives to provide access to quality early child care, Fit Family and food programs, special education and general child education services for infants (six weeks and older) to five year olds for all the families in our area. We work to improve family mental and physical health and economic stability by providing these services. In keeping with these goals, access to El Centro's services are provided through sliding scale tuition.
Our Philosophy
ECDLNs programs respond to a wide array of interrelated educational and economic issues. Achieving stated program goals has far-reaching implications by improving school outcomes, reducing special education needs, improving social-cooperative development skills, and supporting families. Overall program benefits include:
Demonstrated cooperation in disparate populations
Provision of comprehensive services for children in poverty
Reduction in high-risk behaviors from early intervention and education
Higher School Readiness, increased academic engagement and achievement
Enhanced life skills
Strengthened school-community collaborations
Increased intercultural understanding and preservation of cultural traditions
Increased parental involvement and positive intergenerational activity
El Centro serves a number of physically or developmentally impaired children. We actively employ an inclusive model of therapy and education. Children without disabilities who have early childhood experiences with children who have learning, behavioral and developmental differences have more patience, empathy and less fear of differences when they are older.
