Summer in Red River, NM
Located at 8,750' in the Sangre de Cristo Range of Northern New Mexico's Rocky Mountains, Red River is the place to beat the heat. With daytime temperatures typically in the 70s and cool nights of star-filled skies, Red River has been a Rocky Mountain resort destination for over a century. And there is so much to do here! Set in the middle of the more than 1 million acre Carson National Forest, there are hundreds of trails to hike, and mountain biking for all skill levels. Road biking is phenomenal here as well, with Red River being the high point of the 84 mile scenic byway, the Enchanted Circle. And of course, there is horseback riding. Go trail riding for an hour, or take a horseback camping trip through the incomparable Valle Vidal. And if that isn't enough cowboying for you, put your horse away and mosey on over to a Cowboy Evening of great food and entertainment under the stars. You can go rock climbing, ATVing, fly fishing for New Mexico's native cutthroat trout, or just relax and watch the hummingbirds ... hundreds of them, as well as Rocky Mountain Bluebirds, and raptors of all kinds. Take a leisurely hike through an alpine meadow carpeted with wildflowers, and don't forget your camera!

Just down the mountain is Taos, with restaurants, galleries and museums, perfect thermals for hot air ballooning, river rafting trips from 3 day meanders down the Rio Chama to Class IV and V rapids of the Taos Box run. There is more to do in Northern New Mexico than you can imagine.
