UFO An unidentified flying object. There is a long history of UFO sightings throughout New Mexico, including the famous Roswell Incident of June 7, 1947, involving the alleged recovery of a crashed UFO and several alien beings from the wreckage. There has been a tremendous debate over the years as to actual events and evidence collected. The incident has become a pop culture phenomenon, making Roswell synonymous with UFOs. However, in many other parts of New Mexico, including Taos and Santa Fe, improvised "UFO Crossing" signs are commonly seen in small communities or along the highway.
